Leadership Team

Go For A Better World is filled with passionate Go enthusiasts who aim to bring the benefits of Go to places where they’re needed.

Founder and
President

Jake Kim

Jake (Jinhoo) Kim, a junior at The Bishop's School, discovered his passion for Go in 4th grade, drawn not only to its countless possibilities but also to the subtle, almost "mind-reading" interactions between players that make the game so engaging. After moving to La Jolla, he saw Go’s potential to help seniors and prevent dementia, which inspired him to start his nonprofit, Go For A Better World, aimed at reducing dementia risk and fostering an intergenerational community. In 2023, Jake won $4,000 in the Bishop's Social Innovation Competition, which helped him launch Gateway to Go, a beginner-friendly program. He continues to expand workshops at senior living homes and support the opening of new Chapters across various regions. In his free time, Jake enjoys going to the beach, taking photos, and playing golf with family and friends.

Ryan Shi

Ryan is a junior at The Bishop’s School and has been an avid Go player for two years, during which he has developed a passion for sharing the game with others. He has experience teaching Go to a diverse range of age groups and is dedicated to discovering effective and engaging methods to help others learn and enjoy the game. Together with Go For A Better World, Ryan aims to make a difference in elevating seniors' quality of life through Go. Outside of school, Ryan enjoys playing the piano and playing golf. Director of Volunteer
Coordination

Zack Chen

Zack, a junior at The Bishop’s School, has recently taken up playing Go and is deeply intrigued by the strategic depth and complexity of the game. This year, he has joined Go for a Better World with the goal of enhancing his teaching and marketing abilities, as well as sharing his enthusiasm for Go with a wider audience. He is particularly focused on marketing strategies to effectively promote the game and develop engaging educational content to help others grasp its nuances and find enjoyment in it. Outside of school, Zack enjoys playing basketball, playing golf, and watching movies.

Director of Communication
and Social Media

Sanjun Han

Jun (Sangjun) Han is a sophomore at Torrey Pines High School with a deep enthusiasm for the game of Go. He discovered his passion for Go in 3rd grade. Although he has always had a strong love for Go, living in a community far from the game’s roots made it hard to stay connected to the game. Discovering this organization gave him the opportunity to continue his passion by connecting with others who share a love for Go, while also contributing to its worthwhile purpose. He is excited to be part of this organization and believes in Go as an impetus for a positive impact in the community.
