Go For A Better World

Our Approach

Gateway to Go

This video was created primarily to promote Gateway to Go, an easy-to-follow introductory Go program developed to spread the game across all age groups. Available in both Korean and English, the program has been compiled into a book, with key elements also accessible online. As part of our mission at Go For A Better World to unlock the benefits of Go for reducing the risk of dementia, Gateway to Go plays a crucial role in expanding Go's reach and impact. With this video, Gateway to Go was honored to receive 3rd place in the Go Promotion Award, hosted by the International Society of Go Studies in Toulouse, France, in July 2024.

Part 1 - Go For A Better World

We are dedicated to leveraging the potential benefits of playing Go, supported by academic research, particularly as a preventive measure against dementia

Part 2 - Gateway to Go

Gateway to Go is the first outcome of our year-long effort to build an intergenerational Go-playing community, serving as a key step toward promoting Go across all age groups. Gateway to Go is innovative in five key areas: storytelling that highlights the historical and cultural context of Go, easy-to-follow five-step lessons, rapid mastery, the encouragement of a learning community, and free access.

Part 3 - Project Timeline

Our journey began in early 2023 when we won The Bishop's Social Innovation Competition, earning a $4,000 prize. In August 2023, we partnered with DoDream Education in Korea to develop Gateway to Go. By September 2023, we launched 'Go For A Better World' as a service club at The Bishop's School. In January 2024, we introduced a free public Go class at the La Jolla Public Library, followed by the launch of a Go class at San Diego Calvary Church in March 2024. In May 2024, we finalized the Gateway to Go program and secured an agreement to offer a Gateway to Go class at Chateau La Jolla, a senior living community.

Part 4 - Plans for Future

We will continue our journey to spread Go, both locally in San Diego, throughout the U.S., and internationally. Our future plans include translating Gateway to Go into languages such as Spanish, French, Chinese, and more. Additionally, we aim to establish an advisory group of experts, including neuroscientists, investors, gerontologists, data scientists, and others, to further advance our mission.
