Head Instructor
Founder & President
Jinhoo jake Kim
Jinhoo is a senior at The Bishop’s School and an amateur 6-dan Go player who discovered his passion in 4th grade. After moving to La Jolla, he recognized the game’s potential to support seniors and help prevent dementia, inspiring him to start Go For A Better World in 2022. Under his leadership, the nonprofit launched Gateway to Go, a beginner-friendly, Go-based cognitive health program funded by $4,000 from the Bishop’s Social Innovation Competition. He kickstarted local classes by pitching the program to senior living communities and the public library. Jinhoo began as the sole instructor but now mentors members of his school’s Go Club and other chapters as they teach in the community. Together, they lead workshops in senior living communities, church groups, and other outreach settings. Outside of Go, he enjoys the beach, photography, and golfing.
